LIFE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD...by b. Malin

AND SOMETIMES...FIVE...OR MORE...
LIFE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD...
Born
Life
Live
Home
Play
Grow
Work
Date
Love.
LIFE IS A FIVE LETTER WORD...
Smile
Happy
Marry
Begin
Again
Birth
Death
And in between these Basic Four and Five letter words we stand, ready to go out into the World all Shiny and New, without a Care in the World. Most of us have been raised to do our Best, Work hard in School, Grow Up half way Normal, and finally, be able to take care of ourselves. Our Parents Love us, but want us to succeed on our own...Have a good Job, take a Mate, and Marry, and of course, make them Grandparents!
Now in a Perfect World this does Happy for many of us... We do Marry... or have a "Significant Other"...Someone who Loves us Unconditionally...Mmm, well maybe Most of the Time. We in turn Love them back, most of the time... and try our best to do all the rest, on the Treadmill of Life...Most of the time.
So we have the child, or children...continue to work, find that OUR "Play Time" is a thing of the past... restricted to the Children, and we are now the Hard Working Adults...Buying a Home, setting up "College Funds" for the Future, and praying that our patience will sustain us...And as a Couple, we will last, and grow old together...And our Sex Lives will stay "On Hold" for just awhile longer...Because we are so Tired...And there is so Much to do and get done and the day and night are just not LONG enough. It wasn't like that in the beginning when we were so HOT and heavy for one another. But that sadly was then, and this is now, our Reality.
Some of us make it through those years, and some, Sadly, do not...We divorce in record number... If there are children involved, they live in "two homes"...and their parents, work even harder, as they wonder who they are...And why the Dreams they shared changed. They are still Parents, most of them working Parents, but suddenly they make the TIME for "other things"...Like playtime for themselves, which means they date, sometimes just "sleep around" and go through their "crazy times". The Children sometimes have to fend for themselves, and in some cases, THEY become the parent to their Parents!
Thank goodness the time passes quickly as some Marry again, adding the word "Normal" back into their lives...Some are good Marriages blending two Families, while others are Mistakes, that will not last...And some find Comfort for whatever the reasons, and just live together in a way that works well for them.
The Children grow up, leave home, take off for College, the Service, or sometimes points unknown...and those questions are not answered...The World is a different place. Meanwhile the Grandparents, some of them in need of help, for they can no longer take care of themselves and too proud to ask. Some grown children do take their Parents in...some don't... Times once again have become hard. And so instead, some Parents go to Nursing Homes and eventually death comes to claim them. While others go to Assisted Living, where they sit alone and wonder if they have failed somewhere along the way. They won't talk about it, but they know, that the idea of giving up any of their Space... is something their children just won't do...As these parents did for their parents. But this Generation feels no Guilt...Life is Hard...It's a Four Letter Word.

Very heavy duty, very good, & very real.
Yes, life is no picnic in the park all of the time, but sometimes, it is, & that should be enough, but what is enough we may wonder...
In my mind the mistake our society makes is brain washing us into thinking all the "I ought toos.." when in actuality we need to teach our children to follow their hearts, to be good to themselves & one another, & to be patient & kind as they are striving...
We've all seen many a senior "alone" in their old age, it does make us question "what is wrong w/ that picture.."
"And in the end, the love u* take is equel to the love u* make.."- The Beatles
& that is what they composed when they were in their 20's, no less. My, my they were so wise, & timeless..
An*excellent piece of writing, B. Malin you've definitely tapped upon quite the topic!
Creative and fun, b.M, and the significant otter at the beginning of your clever hub made my day. Thank you.
Hi, I never thought of it like that, so many four/ five letter words, that mean everything, rated up! amazing!
Truly outstanding and food for more thought. Very clever and well written.
Good job and so true in today's world.
Very NICE! I'm impressed with your collection of words that all relate to life. Thank you for the hub :)

i give you 100 000 000 000 000 000 000% stars for your creation, yesh thank you for the hub
i vote 1000 000 000 000 000 times up i give you also thumbs up and three cheers ;)
The circle of life, well, American life. This was nicely done. It describes us well.
On a practical note when setting a table for dinner -- fork is a four letter word and so is left . . . so you know the fork goes on the left. Knife and spoon are both five letter words like right . . . so you know they go on the right. Embarassed to admit how many times I say that to myself!
The title drew me in, the four and five letter words made me smile and the in between was life with all the angst and painful, learning and hopefully growing experiences. I'm sure ANYONE reading this will find snapshots of themselves or their children, parents and grandparents.
Powerful, poignant, thought-provoking hub and I see from the comments that it has touched a nerve.
Thanks for sharing it. So true to life with all it's many twists and turns and challenges at every stage.
Voted up across the board including funny because of the clever saying on the otter picture!
You are so creative and such a talent. I love this theme. When it comes to being unique, you take the cake for sure. Votes up.
Hi b.Malin, a very creative and clever hub, really enjoyed reading this and so, so true to life.
thanks for sharing and voting up.
Best wishes MM
Good job as usual. Working for years as a nurse i saw those who were abandoned, neglected and ignored by their families who were just too busy with their own lives to even visit. Many sad old people die alone. What ever happened to those days when the elderly and grand parents especially were revered, honored and cared for at home?
b.Malin you just wrote a short version of my life, I tried them all, some worked most didn't. The marriages were total disasters, 3 of my 4 children don't talk to or see me and all for simply divorcing their mother. What a hell of a price to pay for raising children and divorcing their mother, I paid big time.
I have lived on the edge of life most of it,ups and downs a plenty. Yet I have no regrets other than I never married to divorce. Now I am single and have been for 12 years, I enjoy my alone time, writing and thinking. I will never fully understand life, it's meaning or direction for us all.
But heck, I'm sure happy to have come into my own. This was a fantastic scribe you left us here, I voted it UP and Awesome...
You are so right! Times do change and this is a very different world indeed. This is a very well written and very interesting hub b.Malin. The way you use your very unique technique to describe the steps of us as individuals is really delightful.
Unique Technique... Lol I kinda like the sound of that!
Heehee 'click' is a 5 letter word and I just clicked to unfollow one of your old hubs but accidentally unfollowed you. so don't be surprised to receive an email saying that I am following you again. Lol
Awesome! I love how you have changed the meaning of a 4 letter word for me. I will show this to my son!! Great read.
Very well crafted
Yes, life certainly can be a four-letter word; with al the ups and downs of roller coaster. I loved the candor and creativity of this hubs, B. It is sooo refreshing. Your points about the elderly especially hit home. I took care of my mother when she fell into a depression after my father died; a nursing home was, to me, unthinkable. But this philosophy is sadly disappearing. I was shocked to see many of our elderly live alone and lost, and their children rarely contact them. It is soo sad to see.
This is an interesting, thoughtful and meaningful piece of writing, b. Malin - and ends with a sad description of the way in which elderly people are often treated. Thank you for sharing your thoughts - and for the great photo!
Hi B, once again you have demonstrated the art of creative writing where you start with such an original idea and progress on with it. Life can be hard and finding a life partner is a hit or miss affair. I'm one of the lucky ones, and the harder I work at it the luckier I seem to get. Life is a roller coaster ride and the car can so easily come of the rails. Inspiring stuff and very interesting to read. Cheers
You write very well. I wish I had your talent.
Wow, really interesting, Creative. Not what I was expecting. Voted up. Bravo!
How about "hope," "wait" and "dine." Voting this Up and Awesome.
Thanks for the visit, b.
These are words true and meaningful.
Excellent, sweet and beautiful.
Why must we move away in the middle of vigorous times and live to regret the distance in times of difficulty? I have regrets... Thanks for a loverly hub!
Outstanding hub and the circle continues. Your words are true and really do make you think about what you have read.
Voted up and beautiful. Keep 'em coming!
Such is life, full of four letter and five letter words. This is sweet, poignant, touching. See, I'm not just about boobies.
Hi b. Malin! Not only is this hub creative, it is full of raw truth and inspiration. Any comments that I may have will pale in the shadow of what you have already written, so I will just say, voted up, up and away!
Read this yesterday and shared, but I see I failed to comment too. Want to let you know this really stuck with me. Thought about the premise for quite some time; everyone should. Beautiful. And so true. So glad you wrote this.
Wow, this was a wonderful hub. I actually went back and read it twice. So real, and so true. Another great hub b.Malin, I really liked this one. Voted up across the board!
I had to come back another time and read this great hub.:) Just chillin!lol
I don't always appreciate hearing or reading hearing four letter words - but here it was a pleasure. How true, Sadly - things aren't always - rosy.
Amazed much for the four and five letters word that made up the life...thanks for sharing with us your unique hub! You have done it so well...
Very unique B! I enjoyed this one very much. The ending was sad for me and not something that I feel, but very true indeed. Great write!
Sharyn
