SO...WHAT'S NEW... by b. Malin

ONE CRAZY DAY...
So what's New? Ok, Ok, I'll tell you dear Hubber Friends what's new. We CLOSED on that Condo with the View...In the Marina, with the Breathtaking Sunsets. Sounds Wonderful, Right? Well let's back up to "CLOSING DAY"...That's where this Hub Story begins.
THE BANK
We are at our Bank, "Wells Fargo"...well it's not really our bank, but it's our bank in Florida, for our bank in Jersey, is NOT here. We had opened an account down here last year to put money in for our "Condo to be". Sounded like a good plan to us, and it was. So there we sat, Lover Man and I and the "Transfer Guy". Huh, you say, what's that? Well before I tell you. Let me say that We were instructed by the "Title Company" that a "Wire Transfer" was the way they did the closing now...No "Cashier's Check"..."WIRE TRANSFER".
Ok, ok, no Problem. RIGHT...So now back to "Wire Transfer Man", who is Expertly filling out the Outgoing Wire Transfer Request, which he then assures us will get to the Title Company BEFORE We do! We shake hands and are Happily on our way!
TITLE COMPANY
I am proud to report,We actually arrive a few minutes Early and of course sit, and sit past our appointment time...until our "Title Lady" arrives breathlessly and shakes our hands. We are then ushered across the Law offices to a small room, where she knocks softly on the door. It is opened by a not so Happy looking Lawyer. She giggles, (yes, giggles) and tells him, it's just the 3 of us for a Closing and would he mind if we used this Conference Room. He never speaks, he just Glares and leaves.
THE CLOSING
I ask "Debbie" our Closer, if the Wire Transfer has arrived. "Mmmm I'm not sure" she replies, but not to worry, the girl who brings it over to us is OUT T0 LUNCH, and can bring it to us when she gets back". "Debbie, I say trying to sound sweet, we're not waiting until she gets back to know that it is here"... "Yes, of course you're right, she replies, I'll go check". She comes back about ten minutes later, which gave Lover Man and I time to read all the Diplomas that hung on the walls. Debbie returns, smiles sweetly, says, "It's NOT here yet, but Not To Worry, (Giggle) sometimes they take a few hours to get here...Let's just do all the paper work, it will probably be here before you leave". Lover Man and I look at one another and he squeezes my hand under the table...Which I know means, let it go for now. But I can tell by his expression that he is worried too. So I say to Debbie, "are you sure you don't want us to call the bank"? "No, she giggles, Don't Worry, this happens ALL THE TIME".
Ok, so 1 hour later, we have finished the "Cash" closing, signed our names and the Condo with the View is ours! But still no "Wire Transfer" has arrived. But "Debbie" is NOT WORRIED, and We shouldn't be either...After all the Condo is all ours...And No Cash has exchanged, except on paper. Think about that one for a moment!
So, we now shake hands with Debbie, and pick up our Folder... The Condo is ours...She has assured us she will call us as soon as the "girl" who is NOT BACK from Lunch yet...brings her the "Wire Transfer." A two hour Lunch...Wouldn't you like her job? Debbie walks us to the Elevator and we are soon on our drive back to the Condo with the View.
The Phone Call
At 4pm my cell phone rings, it is "Debbie" with Bad News...The Wire Transfer is NOT there. Now Debbie is worried! We are Mad..."Debbie, I say, why didn't you let me call the Bank when we were with you like I wanted to"? She was silent, no giggle. "Debbie, I said, I will now call the Bank".
The Bank
I get hold of the Manager, who gives me to the Assistant Manager, a man named "Paul". I explain my Problem. And I tell him, I will write about this, if it doesn't get straightened out NOW. He replies," I remember you, a pretty Blonde, you were in earlier with your Husband. "Yes" I say, feeling so relieved that he remembers us...or Me. Paul say's, "I'm going to put you on hold for about five minutes and run down to the "Transfer Room". I now picture him galloping away like the old Wells Fargo Stage Coach". Soon Paul is back, good news, the "Wire Transfer" went through about 1/2 hour ago". He has even offered to call Debbie and let her know...And would I please Not write about this, or if I do, Not use his Last name...Wells Fargo never really makes Mistakes...Hey Hubbers stop Laughing!
Debbie calls me back about 1/2 hour later. "Giggle, Giggle, the Transfer has arrived"! As I take her phone call, Lover Man and I are out on the "Lanai" looking at a Magnificent Sunset...and at this very moment, all seems right, at the end of One CRAZY Day.

Your entire story captivated me with your interesting writing style. Good work.
Oh to be in the hands of others. Pleased it all worked out in time for you to enjoy that magnificent sunset
Awesome
My goodness, what a rigamarole. Thanks for the update -- I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you in awhile. Voting this Up and Interesting.
Congrats and enjoy!
I remember looking at all the forms and different people coming in and out when my mother bought my condo. Each person had their own forms and pen. It does take awhile but for them to proceed without cash is understandable and besides, you were already chillin on the "Lanai" with no worries!
Great hub!
Congratulations!
Congratulations and by the way threatening people by telling them you will write about them is one way to get things done! Seriously, I am very happy for both of you. No more renting!!
I am so happy that you have your dream place. Now if I can get mine. Country, quiet, nobody around. Solitude, ya know. I am big into it. I never have time to be bored.
b. Malin, I never had a 'good' closing, it was always something. I am glad the view is now yours and the work begins to get it up to your standards. You have a good start. It is not 30 degrees. Congratulations
Yeah! congrats! now I am packing to come over for a holiday! haha! only joking, but seriously nothing goes right with things like this, thank goodness it was only a glitch, and the result is awesome! I am soooo jealous! lol!
Congratulations. I was with you in this story to the end.You had my full attention and yes I was laughing .Good job getting the condo. Nice sunset.
Wells Fargo company always makes me think of that song from The Music man 'The Wells Fargo Wagon" especially when Winthrop is singing it at the top of his voice even though he is lisping.
Glad to hear you can relax now.
Delighted you are finally in your condo with the spectacular view. Take your time with the fixin' up - it will all fall into place. Thanks for the funny story of your closing. Not funny to you, perhaps, but funny to read.
Very interesting day. Closings can be a hassle. Thank God it worked out okay at the end. Love the picture. Congratulations! Voted up.
I say you handled it rather calmly. I would have been bitting my finger nails AND toenails to nubs. Well, all ended well and now you can sit in your condo overlooking Florida's magnificent sunsets, which by the way, it is where I also live. Funny thing, Wells Fargo is also my mortgage company. Now, for the unpacking of boxes.
b. malin - I was wondering where you've been. Now I reckon I know. Great writing.
The Frog
This was a funny story. I wonder what will happen next? HaHa I am still thinking about the possible RAT in the comode. HaHa..Hey, the guy called you a pretty blond, that worth a bunch..Cheers
HaHa Good for you..Cheers
I'm glad that your story had a happy ending after all the problems. Good luck with fixing the condo. I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences!
That was one 'crazy' day - but with a happy ending, congratulations!
My best wishes to you and Lover Man!
Congrats on your new condo! I know how much this experience can be stressing once i experience myself a few years back! We bought our house from a divorcing couple so On the closing day, my husband and i were waiting for them to arrive... First the lady arrived and saluted us and 15 min later, the ex husband comes in with his lover! The one who cheated on his wife.... I think you can imagine the rest..... But in the end all worked out.
What a day! Isn’t it annoying when you have to walk people through and follow-up with the details they should be handling themselves? I am so pleased everything worked out for you with your new condo. I loved the part about “writing about this.” I wish I could have been a fly on the wall just to see “Paul’s” face. :-)
The perfect condo doesn't come along everyday. Glad it all went well.
B Malin, I hate days such as this, when nothing seems to go right. Hopefully the condo was worth it, I'm sure it was. It is a great feeling though when everything works out, especially at the end of a hard day. It makes the joy that much sweeter.
I won't even go into the negative experience I had with Wells Fargo. I will NEVER deal with them again. I have been treated well by Key Bank and have been with them now for several years.
Enjoy your condo. I used to live in Florida and miss it sometimes. I grew up in the north though and missed my pine trees. I am visiting Florida though in a few weeks as my son and future daughter-in-law live there.
You did a great job expressing the emotions of the day!
I'm so happy that you have your "condo with a view." I know you and lover man are also. I wish you so much happiness. Seems like anything worth having never comes easy. Sorry you both had to experience such a scenario.
The photo of the sunset is so beautiful. You did a great job writing about this. What an entertaining hub. I held on to every single word. You're a gifted writer my friend.
Much happiness and lot's of fun to you and lover man!
Oh my what a day! It does seem that when we really want something to go smooth there always seems to be a glitch if even for a short time to keep us in a state of panic...why can things just be smooth sailing sometimes..lol
Loved this and can relate!
Hugs,
Sunnie
Hi b. Malin, I did laugh with all you wrote on your Condo experience. Too funny! Writings like yours are what I have missed while away. You'll see me hitting your pages again! Thanks for the early morning glee! God Bless! Glad you got the condo!
I was holding my breath, waiting for the ball to drop. Glad it all worked out for you. Enjoy the sunsets!! : )
Well, I am glad it all worked out in the end for our pretty blond and her lover man. Thank you for the entertaining story. I enjoyed the journey. :-)
...well dear friend - always so good to hook up with you and as I speak/write I am proud to say that my lake has not frozen over this winter and on a day like today it looks absolutely gorgeous with the sun shining down upon it and creating a dazzling diamond effect.
I am so happy for you after reading this story and I wish you continued success and health too during the rest of this winter - lake erie time ontario canada 11:18am sending you warm wishes and good energy and the winter up has not been so severe - yet - hence the lake not being frozen over like most years
Every sunset and beach view and dream condo is probably worth a bit of pain and awkward moment, just to have that final satisfaction of throwing yourself on the sofa after it is done and saying ... this is ours. We are here. :)
I ahh .....I'm happy for you guys really , but I'm still thinking about glen beck and you guys ........get it ?.....:-}
This was great, b., I could just imagine the closing agent giggling and the sour face of the deposed lawyer when you entered his space. Closings rarely go off without a hitch but in your case it got resolved and now you can enjoy that wonderful view. Looking forward to your next adventures now that you have settled in.
Welcome to the world of Banking and Florida. It only gets better.
I read your experience with knowing amusement... I too have had similar 'closings' in Florida and have badly bitten nails to prove it.
